Lisa Hummel is a Ph.D student in the Department of Sociology. Her interest areas include political sociology, social psychology, and inequality. Her research is concerned with questions of political identity as it intersects with other identities including social class, race, and gender. She is currently investigating what it is like to be a political minority; she studies people’s experiences when their political affiliation differs from what the political leanings expressed by the majority of individuals in a given geographic area.
Prior to Stanford, she received an undergraduate degree in psychology and religion from Colgate University, and worked as a teacher.
