Civil Society and Sustainability Conference

Civil society actors are central to achieving sustainable development. Nonprofits and activists, for example, influence public policy, corporate practices, and individual behaviors at local, national, and international levels. They are also frontline workers in efforts towards solving environmental problems and are often at the forefront of issues of environmental justice. Further, philanthropy — by individuals and large organizations, alike — is an influential part of the global environmental agenda.

Led by Stanford’s Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society Faculty Co-Director, Patricia Bromley, and Director of Research and Scholar Programs, Karina Kloos, this conference is designed to strengthen the community of scholars and scholarship that offer a knowledge base to support and amplify civil society activities for sustainable development.
