Policy Responses to Fake News and Junk Science

The Oxford Internet Institute, the Oxford Martin School, the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, and Stanford University are convening an international workshop to examine the interplay between misinformation campaigns, news coverage, and platform companies in public understanding of public life, science, and technological innovation. Oxford University will provide the neutral ground and the occasion to (1) ask social media firms for deliberate strategies to improve their implementation of democratic norms and practises (2) help inform the regulatory response from leading authorities who are designing policy interventions. High-level European policymakers, industry representatives and members from academic will present new research findings on fake news and junk science, and discuss democratic norms and regulatory responses that serve to enhance political participation online.
