Ling Han

Ling Han is an Assistant Professor in the Gender Studies Programme at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is a sociologist researching the intersection of gender, technology, and social innovation. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society at Stanford University for growing the China Program. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego. She was previously a Research Fellow at the Asia Centre for Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy (ACSEP) at the National University of Singapore Business School. She directs research initiatives that investigate the gender dimensions and compare the institutions, organizations, and actors that drive social innovation education and social entrepreneurship in Asia.

She is currently working on her book manuscript that examines the evolution of the social work profession in China through the emergence of a new type of community organization that intersects the civic responsibility, emotional work, professional skills, and state’s soft power. She published on topics relating to gender, sexuality, environmentalism, NGOs, and social enterprises. Her new research examines gender inequality in the social innovation sector. She has extensive collaboration experiences with foundations, nonprofit organizations, corporate philanthropies, and impact investors in China and Southeast Asia.
