Maddy Stein (Vice Chairman)
Madeline (Maddy) Stein is a retired teacher and an active Stanford and community volunteer. In 2007 she received the Governor’s Award from the Stanford Associates’ Board of Governors for her extensive volunteer service to Stanford. Maddy is currently the founding chair of the School of Education Advisory Council (2001-2009) and was a member of the Haas Center’s National Advisory Board (2002-2007). In addition, she was the co-chair of the committee which created the successful Cosby on Campus event that raised, in one day, $1.4 million to support graduate students in the Stanford Teacher Education Program. Currently, Maddy is a member of the Stanford Challenge Leadership Council (2007-2011) and a Trustee of Arcadia University where she chairs the University’s capital campaign. Maddy, together with her husband Isaac, was the 2004 recipient of the John W. Gardiner Visionary Award from Pathways Hospice. In 1998, she was named Palo Alto’s Outstanding Citizen in recognition of her service to the local community, where she has served as Board Chair and done extensive fundraising for a number of local organizations, including the Children’s Health Council, the Community Breast Health Project, the Palo Alto Community Fund and the Gamble Gardens. Maddy holds a BA from Arcadia Univeristy and MA from Stanford University.
